Although the beloved show was prematurely canceled in 2008, many cast members of "Girlfriends" have gone on to have glittering careers in the movie and TV industry.

Many fans were heartbroken when news broke that their beloved Black-led TV show, "Girlfriends," one of the highest-rated scripted shows on TV at the time, would not be returning for a ninth season.

The show starring Tracee Ellis Ross, Persia White, Golden Brooks, and Jill Marie Jones has been missed over the past dozen years.

However, with Netflix announcing their acquisition of the rights to "Girlfriends," along with six other Black-led sitcoms, the show is set to return to streaming. Take a look at what the cast members have been up to of late.

PERSIA WHITE

After "Girlfriends," White co-produced the award-winning documentary, "Earthlings," narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, and later released her debut album, "Mecca."

The move was treasured by both the actresses and their fans who have expressed their unhappiness.

GOLDEN BROOKS

Brooks also had a recurring role in Starz's "Blunt Talk" and she bagged a lead role in TV One's reality series, "Hollywood Divas" which she starred in from 2014 until 2016. In 2019, she played Jimmy Lee in the TV mini-series, "I Am The Night."

JILL MARIE JONES

Jones' portrayal of Toni Childs, the loud and bougie girlfriend, won her many plaudits, so much so that some fans admitted to having mixed feelings towards the actress due to her compelling portrayal of the somewhat selfish character.

Jones left "Girlfriends" after Season 6 but continued her acting career and was featured in numerous films including "The Perfect Holiday." Jones also appeared in the Black-ensemble cast film, "35 & Ticking," "Sleepy Hollow," and a few others.

TRACEE ELLIS ROSS

Ross shone brightly on the show playing the career-driven attorney, Joan Clayton. Joan was the group's unofficial leader but she wasn't spared from a lot of hilarious moments on the show.

Still, Ross most-notably stars in ABC's hit comedy series, "Black-Ish" where she plays another powerful female character — a respected doctor and mother-of-four named Rainbow Johnson.

In 2019, "Black-Ish" paid homage to "Girlfriends" as an episode on the show titled "Feminisn't" saw the four main cast members of the older show reunite on set as old friends of Rainbow Johnson helping explain Black feminism to her young daughter.

The move was treasured by both the actresses and their fans who have expressed their unhappiness at how "Girlfriends" came to an undeserved end.
